Non-Thesis Program

Software Engineering Non-Thesis Master's Program is planned to be completed in three semesters. Courses are divided into three groups as pre-requisite courses, compulsory courses and elective courses. Instead of the master's thesis, there are practice and project courses covering individual and team projects. The language of instruction of the program is English.

Candidates who will apply to the program are expected to have basic computer literacy and knowledge of at least one programming language and basic programming concepts. Basic computer literacy includes general information about computer hardware and software units, setting up and using a computer operating system, using commonly used programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and databases, and information on Internet access and Internet services. Knowledge of at least one programming language (C, C++, Java, Python, etc.) and basic programming concepts is equivalent to the CmpE 150 Introduction to Computing course given at Boğaziçi University, Department of Computer Engineering. Students who do not meet this prerequisite should not apply to the program.

It is not important for the applications whether the students who will apply to the Software Engineering Master's Program have taken the equivalent of SWE 501, SWE 510, and SWE 521 prerequisite courses in their undergraduate education or in another graduate program they have completed. Students who have not taken the equivalents of the aforementioned prerequisite courses can be admitted to the program on the condition that they take the prerequisite courses they have not taken in the program.

Software Engineering Non-Thesis Master's students are expected to register for 9 credits (3 courses) in the first semester, 13 credits (4 courses) in the second semester, and 10 credits (3 courses) in the third semester. For special cases that require less credits/courses, the student should contact their Academic Advisor.

In order to graduate from the Software Engineering Master's Program, the prerequisite courses, if any, must be successfully passed and 32 credits, which are the total credits of all compulsory and elective courses, must be completed with a GPA of at least 3.00. Students who have completed 32 credits but cannot meet the 3.00 GPA can repeat the courses for which they have previously received a CC and/or CB grade in order to obtain a 3.00 GPA. A course taken F must be taken in the next semester or in the first semester it is opened.

The program must be completed in a maximum of 3 semesters, including the leave counted for the duration, excluding the semester(s) of the prerequisite courses. You can graduate from the program at the end of the Fall or Spring semester. Graduates at the end of the Fall semester can attend the graduation ceremony held at the end of the Spring semester and receive their diplomas.

In the program, classes are held on Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday-Friday at 19:00-21:50 and on Saturdays at 10:00-12:50, 14:00-16:50, taking into account the students who work in a workplace during the weekdays. between and North Campus, Computer Engineering Building.
